Într-un Chicago distopic, societatea este împărţită în cinci facţiuni separate, fiecare dintre ele cultivând o anumită virtute: Candoarea (cei sinceri), Abnegaţia (cei altruişti), Neînfricarea (cei curajoşi), Prietenia (cei paşnici) şi Erudiţia (cei inteligenţi). În fiecare an, într-o zi anume, tinerii în vârstă de şaisprezece ani trebuie să-şi aleagă facţiunea cărora se vor alătura pentru tot restul vieţii. Eroina, Beatrice, face o alegere care va surprinde pe toată lumea, inclusiv pe ea însăşi.

Filmul e mult mai slab decat cartea :) scenariul din carte este mult mai bine elaborat din punctul meu de vedere ;)
